Watchdog says starts partially limiting access to Facebook

MOSCOW, Feb 25 (PRIME) -- Russia’s communications service has started applying the measures of partial limitation of access to Facebook from Friday, the watchdog said.

The watchdog said the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office upon an agreement with the Foreign Ministry has found Facebook involved in violation of the rights and freedoms of the people because of restricting of the official accounts of four Russian media.

“On February 25, the Prosecutor General’s Office upon an agreement with the Foreign Ministry decided to find social network Facebook involved in violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual and the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Russia,” the watchdog said.

According to earlier reports, Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms had not responded to requirements of the authority to unblock the censored materials of TV channel Zvezda, news agency RIA Novosti, online resources Lenta.ru and Gazeta.ru.
